S32205 duplex stainless steel plateDuplex stainless steel, specifically grade 2205, is a combination of ferrite and austenitic metal phases. This alloy is known for its superior strength and toughness compared to standard austenitic steel. The composition of duplex 2205 plate consists of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5% nickel. The addition of molybdenum and the bimetallic phase enhance the material's strength and corrosion resistance.
Moreover, duplex 2205 plate finds great utility in highly corrosive and high-pressure applications. Industries requiring resistant materials for vessels and piping with high pressure often prefer duplex steel. This is because normal and austenitic steel types lack the required resistance to corrosion and pressure in such environments.
To cater to different requirements, suppliers provide duplex 2205 plates in various forms and shapes. This includes coils, plates, spacers, stripes, and more. Additionally, there is a range of sizes available for 2205 stainless steel plates.
In conclusion, duplex stainless steel grade 2205 offers exceptional strength and corrosion resistance due to its unique composition. This makes it a reliable choice for applications demanding high durability and the ability to withstand extreme conditions.

ASTM A240 S32205 duplex stainless steel plate standard:
  • ASTM A240Introduction:
This specification outlines the requirements for chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip used in the construction of pressure vessels as well as for general applications. The aim is to ensure that the materials used meet the necessary standards for quality, durability, and safety.
    Scope:
This specification applies to all manufacturers, suppliers, and users involved in the production, distribution, and utilization of chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip. It covers a wide range of applications, including but not limited to pressure vessels, industrial equipment, and other general-purpose components.
    Materials:
The materials covered under this specification are primarily chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel alloys. These alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, and good thermal conductivity. The composition of the materials must conform to the specified chemical requirements to ensure the desired mechanical and metallurgical properties.
    Manufacturing:
The manufacturing processes employed to produce chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip must adhere to strict guidelines. These guidelines encompass various stages of production, including melting, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, and finishing. Stringent control measures are necessary to ensure the final products meet the required dimensions, surface quality, and mechanical properties.
    Mechanical Properties:
The mechanical properties of the plates, sheets, and strips must meet specific requirements. These include parameters such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, hardness, and impact toughness. The materials should exhibit sufficient strength and ductility to withstand the intended environmental and operational conditions.
    Chemical Composition:
The chemical composition of the chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel alloys must be within specified limits. This ensures that the materials have the necessary corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Chemical analysis methods such as spectroscopy or wet chemical analysis are used to verify the composition of the materials.
    Surface Finish:
The surface finish of the plates, sheets, and strips is also a critical consideration. It should be free from defects, scale, and contamination that could affect the performance, appearance, or integrity of the material. Various finishing techniques such as pickling, grinding, polishing, or blasting may be employed to achieve the desired surface condition.
    Testing and Inspection:
To ensure compliance with this specification, rigorous testing and inspection procedures are necessary. These include dimensional checks, visual inspections, mechanical testing, chemical analysis, intergranular corrosion testing, and non-destructive testing. Only materials that pass these tests and inspections should be considered suitable for use.
    Certification and Documentation:
Manufacturers and suppliers must provide appropriate certification and documentation to verify the compliance of the materials with this specification. This includes material test reports, certificates of conformance, and records of inspection and testing. Such documentation allows users to trace the origin and quality of the materials and ensures accountability in the supply chain.
    Conclusion:
This specification provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for the proper selection, manufacturing, and utilization of chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip. By adhering to these requirements, the industry can ensure the production of high-quality materials that meet the stringent demands of pressure vessels and other general applications.

S32205 Duplex Stainless Steel Plate Features
1.2205 stainless steel sheet compared with 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel sheet, this grade is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at a temperature of 150°C. ASTM A240 Gr 2205 SS plate is a suitable replacement for austenitic stainless steel, especially in marine environments. 2205 alloy has superior performance in anti-pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion, and it has high corrosion resistance.
2. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, ASTM A240 UNS S32205 plate has twice the compressive strength. 2205 alloy is especially suitable for the temperature range of -50°F/+600°F (Especially for welded structures), can also be used for lower temperatures. Compared with austenite, DIN 1.4462 plate has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity.

S32205 VS S31803
The chemical compositions of S31803 and S32205 both contain 22% chromium, 4.5%~6.5% nickel, and 3%~3.5% molybdenum. S32205 also contains trace elements such as titanium and vanadium. The chemical composition range originally set for UNS S31803 was found to be too broad, and the composition was modified to optimize corrosion resistance and avoid intermetallic phases, giving birth to 2205 duplex steel. An improved version of SAF 2205 has tighter ranges for chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen. ASME SA240 UNS S32205 plate has lower carbon content than S31803 steel plate, in comparison, S32205 stainless steel plate generally has higher strength and better corrosion resistance. Trace elements in duplex F60 plate can enhance its anti-corrosion performance and improve its lattice structure, and the nitrogen content increases to make it more stable. During use, the corrosion resistance of duplex steel 2205 plate is usually better than that of S31803, especially in high temperature and high chloride environment.
