AL6XN stainless steel pipe standard:
  • The ASTM A312 is a standard specification that outlines the requirements for the manufacturing of seamless, welded, and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel pipes. This specification contains detailed information on the materials, dimensions, and tolerances for these types of pipes.
The purpose of this specification is to ensure that the austenitic stainless steel pipes meet specific physical and mechanical properties, as well as withstanding particular types of corrosion. The seamless pipes are produced by drawing a solid billet over a mandrel to create a hollow tube, while welded pipes are manufactured by forming a flat strip of steel into a tube and welding the seam.
The heavily cold-worked pipes are produced through a process that involves a combination of cold rolling and cold drawing. This process helps to improve the mechanical properties of the steel, including its strength and toughness.
Overall, the ASTM A312 is an essential standard that ensures that austenitic stainless steel pipes meet the necessary requirements for use in a range of applications. By following these specifications, manufacturers can produce high-quality, durable pipes that are resistant to corrosion and can withstand severe environmental conditions.

  • The ASTM A213 is a standard specification for seamless tubes made of ferritic and austenitic alloy steel. These tubes are commonly used in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers. The ASTM A213 specifies the requirements for these tubes, including the manufacturing process, dimensions, and mechanical properties.
The tubes covered by this standard are intended for high-temperature and high-pressure service. They are designed to resist corrosion in harsh environments, making them ideal for use in various applications requiring high-performance tubes.
The ASTM A213 is a crucial document for manufacturers and suppliers of seamless tubes made of ferritic and austenitic alloy steel. It sets the standard for quality and safety, ensuring that the tubes produced meet the minimum requirements for use in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers.
Overall, the ASTM A213 plays a vital role in ensuring that seamless tubes made of ferritic and austenitic alloy steel meet the necessary standards, ensuring that they are safe, reliable, and of high quality.

  • The specification ASTM B676 pertains to the welded tube made from UNS N08367. This information serves as a guideline to ensure that the welded tubes produced meet the required standards and specifications. It is essential to use the correct materials and processes to fabricate the tube, guaranteeing its durability and functionality. By following this specification, the welded tube made from UNS N08367 can be used for various applications and tasks, ranging from industrial to domestic use.

Manufacturing Techniques There are various types of pipes available on the market, including Seamless, Welded, ERW, Fabricated, CDW, and 100% X Ray Welded pipes. These pipes differ in terms of their manufacturing process and the specific application they are designed for.
Seamless pipes are made from a solid block of steel and do not have any joints or seams. They are typically used in high-pressure applications where strength and durability are critical.
Welded pipes, on the other hand, are made by welding two or more pieces of steel together. They are used in a wide range of applications, including plumbing and construction.
ERW or Electric Resistance Welded pipes are produced using a combination of heat and pressure, which results in a strong and durable pipe.
Fabricated pipes are made by cutting and bending steel plates into the desired shape. They are often used in large-scale construction projects.
CDW or Cold Drawn Welded pipes are created by drawing a hollow tube through a die and then welding the seams together. They are commonly used in the automotive and aerospace industries.
Finally, 100% X Ray Welded pipes are designed to withstand extreme conditions and are used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, and refineries. They are 100% inspected using X-ray technology to ensure they meet the required standards of safety and quality.
Schedule Thickness Range There are different types of pipe schedules used in the industry. These include SCH 5, SCH 10, SCH 40, SCH 80, SCH 80S, SCH 160, SCH XXS, and SCH XS. Each schedule has its specific uses and characteristics that make it suitable for certain applications.
For instance, SCH 5 pipes are the lightest pipes available and are typically used for low-pressure applications such as water lines. SCH 10 pipes are slightly heavier and thicker than SCH 5 pipes, making them ideal for applications that require a bit more strength.
SCH 40 pipes are commonly used in commercial and industrial applications such as plumbing, HVAC, and process piping. They are thicker than SCH 10 pipes, which makes them more durable and able to withstand higher pressure and temperature fluctuations.
SCH 80 pipes are even stronger and more durable than SCH 40 pipes. They can handle larger pressure and temperature changes, and they are commonly used in high-pressure applications such as chemical processing and oil refineries.
SCH 80S pipes are another option for high-pressure applications, but they are made with a thinner wall thickness and are typically used for stainless steel applications.
SCH 160 pipes are the heaviest and thickest pipes available and are used for extremely high-pressure applications such as steam lines and hydraulic systems.
Lastly, SCH XXS and SCH XS pipes are two additional schedules used for extreme high-pressure applications. They are both thicker and heavier than SCH 160 pipes and are used for specialty applications such as high-pressure hydraulic systems.

AL-6XN Pipe vs. 316L Pipe
AL-6XN and 316L are alloys of austenitic steel alloys and have many similar properties like high strength and corrosion resistance. It is because both have chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen in various percentages. But AISI AL-6XN stainless high steel a pipe has content of all.
AL-6XN has chromium of 20 to 22%, and 316L, has 16.5 to 18.5 %.
AL-6XN has 23.5 to 25.5 % nickel compared to 316L, having 10 to 14.5 %
AL-6XN have 6 to 7% molybdenum and 316L have 2 to 3%
AL-6XN has a high PREN of 43 compared to 23 of 316L

AL-6XN  Pipe vs. 254 SMO Pipe
SS AL6XN pipe and 254 SMO pipe are made from a 6 molybdenum alloy containing more than 6% molybdenum and share many similar characteristics such as resistance to localized corrosion for seawater applications. Although the composition is almost similar, the significant difference between the two is that the PREN of ASTM A312 UNS N08367 stainless steel pipe is higher than that of 254 SMO alloy. The higher the PREN, or Pitting Resistance Number, the more used in many extreme environments. Consequently, AL-6XN has a higher PREN value of 45 than 254 SMO value of 42, making it ideal for pharmaceutical, biotech, food, dairy, personal and home care, and many other applications.
