The composition of 316L stainless steel pipe consists of austenitic stainless steel, comprising chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and a mere 0.035% carbon content. Thanks to its minimal carbon content, SS 316L pipe exhibits resistance to intergranular corrosion and facilitates welding applications. The presence of molybdenum imparts a reduced corrosion rate in chloride-rich environments for ASTM A312 TP316L stainless steel pipe. Available in both seamless and welded options, stainless steel 316L pipes can be obtained as seamless pipes, perforated from billets, or as stainless steel 316L welded pipes, formed by either welding a single sheet end to end or through spiral welding of strips.
- The ASTM A312 is a standard specification that outlines the requirements for seamless, welded, and heavily cold worked austenitic stainless steel pipes. This specification provides specific guidelines and parameters for the manufacturing and testing of these pipes to ensure their suitability for various applications. The purpose of this standard is to maintain consistent quality and performance of these stainless steel pipes in different industries such as chemical, petrochemical, and food processing. By adhering to the ASTM A312, manufacturers can ensure that their stainless steel pipes meet the necessary requirements for seamless and welded construction methods and exhibit the desired mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and dimensions.
- With a wide range of applications, 316L stainless steel pipe is capable of resisting corrosion in various environments such as acidic, alkaline, and saline media. Its excellent resistance to corrosion makes it particularly suitable for use in seawater settings. This type of stainless steel pipe is extensively utilized in diverse industries including chemical, petroleum, food, pharmaceutical, construction, shipbuilding, and machinery. Its versatility and durability have made it a popular choice for many applications.

These schedules are important because they determine the strength and durability of the pipes. The thickness of the pipe walls depends on the pressure and temperature of the materials being transported, so it's important to select the appropriate schedule for the job. The thicker the wall, the better the pipe can withstand high pressure and temperature. Similarly, thinner walls are more suitable for low-pressure and low-temperature applications. Therefore, choosing the right schedule is critical to ensure the safety and efficiency of the piping system. |

ASTM A312 UNS S31603 ERW pipe has higher absolute roughness than seamless pipe and lower dimensional accuracy. 316L stainless steel seamless pipe is used for applications with higher dimensional accuracy. Seamless tubing ranges from ½" to 16". Stainless steel 316L welded pipe ranging from ½ inch to 24 inches, and electric fusion welded pipe ranging from 6 inches to 100 inches. Please feel free to contact us for more information about ASME SA312 UNS S31603 pipe and price.
Both 316L and 316 stainless steel are molybdenum-containing stainless steels. The molybdenum content of ASTM A312 TP316L pipe is slightly higher than that of 316 stainless steel. Due to the molybdenum in the steel, the overall performance of this steel is better than that of 304 stainless steel. Under high temperature conditions, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is lower than 15% and higher than 85%, it has higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. DIN 1.4404 stainless steel pipes have a wide range of uses and are often used in marine environments.
The corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel comes from the protective chromium oxide layer formed on the metal surface. If the material is heated to a high temperature of 450°C to 900°C, the structure of the material changes and chromium carbides form along the crystal edges. In this way, a protective layer of chromium oxide cannot be formed at the edge of the crystal, resulting in reduced corrosion resistance. This corrosion is called "intergranular corrosion". As a low-carbon series of 316 steel, DIN 1.4435 pipes has the same characteristics as 316 steel, and its resistance to intergranular corrosion is excellent. The maximum carbon content of 316L stainless steel is 0.035%, while the maximum carbon content of 316 is 0.08%. The carbon content of 316L stainless round pipe is low, so the precipitation of chromium carbide is reduced during welding, and intergranular corrosion will not occur.
