Duplex stainless steel is a type of steel that combines both austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. UNS S32205 or 2205 duplex stainless steel is a popular corrosion-resistant steel tube. Its high strength and ability to resist corrosion make it well-suited for use in various industries, including chemical processing, marine engineering, and oil and gas. The 2205 tubing alloy also displays excellent resistance to localized corrosion and can withstand pitting corrosion, intergranular corrosion, and crevice corrosion in extreme temperature environments. ASME SA 789 UNS S32205 stainless steel tube is commonly used in piping systems, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels. Overall, F60 tube is a highly reliable and effective solution for applications that require both high strength and resistance to corrosion.
- The ASTM A789 is a standard specification for both seamless and welded ferritic/austenitic stainless steel tubing that is suitable for general service use. This specification outlines the acceptable criteria for the material's properties, dimensions, and other requirements necessary for its safe and effective use. With this ASTM standard in place, manufacturers and suppliers can ensure that the stainless steel tubing they produce is of the appropriate quality and that it meets the necessary standards to perform efficiently and effectively for its intended purpose.
-
The ASTM A790 standard specifies the requirements for both seamless and welded ferritic/austenitic stainless steel pipes. This standard provides guidelines and specifications to ensure the quality and reliability of these pipes.
- The ASTM A928 standard sets out the requirements for the electric fusion welding of duplex stainless steel pipes with the addition of filler metal. The pipe must be made from ferritic/austenitic steel in order to meet this standard. The welding process must be conducted using an electric arc to fuse the two metals together, and filler metal may be added to ensure a proper bond. This standard is important for ensuring the quality and safety of duplex stainless steel pipes, which have a unique combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability. Compliance with this standard can help to prevent failures and ensure longevity of piping systems in a variety of industrial applications.

S32205 vs S31803
Both S32205 and S31803 are duplex stainless steel grades commonly used in various industries. While they are very similar, there are some key differences between the two:
- Chemical composition: S32205 contains slightly more chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen than S31803. Specifically, S32205 contains 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 0.18% to 0.20% nitrogen, while S31803 contains 21% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum, and 0.08% to 0.20% nitrogen.
- Mechanical Properties: S32205 generally has higher mechanical properties than S31803. For example, S32205 has higher tensile strength, yield strength and elongation than S31803.
- Corrosion resistance: Both S32205 and S31803 have excellent corrosion resistance, especially in environments containing chlorides. However, S32205 generally has better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than S31803.
- Weldability: Both S32205 and S31803 can be welded, but the weldability of S32205 is better than that of S31803, especially for thicker sections.
